2021 Ford Explorer
If you're looking for an example of what the three-row midsize SUV world should look like, take a look at the 2021 Ford Explorer. The Explorer's 2020 redesign is still going strong in the 2021 model year, offering SUV drivers a modern and updated adventure-ready SUV.
Trim Levels
The 2021 Ford Explorer is offered in five trim levels: the self-titled Base model and the XLT, Limited, sport-minded ST, and luxurious Platinum trims. The King Ranch trim level will be made available later in spring 2021. The Explorer offers some alluring exterior upgrades, including a twin-panel moonroof, roof rails, adaptive headlights that turn with your steering wheel, and more. The recently redesigned Explorer features a modern-looking front fascia with sharp headlights and daytime running lights on either side of a large black mesh grille. The muscled lines in the hood and sides give the SUV a sporty personality.
Engine
The 2021 Explorer starts its lineup with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine that produces 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. If you need more power than that, upgrade to the 3.0-liter EcoBoost V-6, which delivers 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. The Limited can be outfitted with a hybridized powertrain that offers 318 horsepower. These engines are paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Performance
Add the intelligent four-wheel-drive system to take advantage of the traction-boosting Terrain Management System. This system gives you access to seven drive modes that enable you to communicate with your SUV on the kind of road conditions it faces ahead. Properly equipped, the Explorer tows up to 5,600 pounds confidently with features such as trailer sway control. The Explorer achieves a surprisingly efficient fuel economy of up to 27 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. Whether you're looking for a sport-minded SUV to push forward or simply a family-ready vehicle, the Explorer has you covered.
Interior
The Explorer's cabin offers a comfortable space for up to seven passengers. The rear two rows can be folded down to create room for more cargo. The E-Z Entry second-row seats make it easier for your rear-row riders to reach their seats. Opt for the King Ranch edition to cover your Explorer's interior with leather upholstery. All Explorers feature tri-zone automatic climate control, but you can buy the XLT or higher to take advantage of heated front seats. The Limited throws a heated steering wheel and ventilated front seats into the mix.
Safety Features
Traveling through busy streets is easier with an Explorer. The 2021 Ford Explorer offers an array of modern safety features, including the driver-assist technologies in the Ford Co-Pilot360 suite. All Explorers offer a frontal collision mitigation system, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, a lane-centering system, adaptive cruise control, and more through this suite. All also feature a rearview camera that makes reversing stress-free. The standard automatic high beams keep the road safer both for you and the cars coming your way. These are just a few of the ways the Explorer focuses on your family's safety.
